Reliance Jio Infocomm, on Thursday announced the launch of the Asia-Africa-Europe (AAE-1) submarine cable system, a company statement said here. "AAE-1, the longest 100Gbps technology based submarine system, will stretch over 25,000 km from Marseille, France, to Hong Kong, with 21 cable landings across Asia and Europe," the statement said. MICROSOFT TO BUY ISRAELI CLOUD MANAGEMENT FIRM

Microsoft has said it will acquire Israel-based cloud management company Cloudyn. "Microsoft has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cloudyn, an innovative company that helps enterprises and managed service providers optimize their investments in cloud services," the software giant announced.  "This acquisition fits squarely into our commitment to empower customers with the tools they need to govern their cloud adoption and realise the strategic benefits of a global, trusted, intelligent cloud," said Jeremy Winter, Director of Programme Management, Microsoft Azure Security and Operations Management. Cloudyn gives enterprise customers tools to identify, measure and analyse consumption, enable accountability and forecast future cloud spending. Microsoft did not disclose Cloudyn's price tag. It said that closing of the acquisition was subject to regulatory approval.

The West Bengal government will write to the Centre seeking postponement of the July 1 start to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, as "small and medium traders are not yet prepared for the new tax system", a state minister said here on Tuesday. "The country's small and medium traders are still not ready for the GST rollout," Finance Minister Amit Mitra, who is also Chairman of the Empowered Committee on GST, told mediapersons.He said the country would head to a disastrous situation if the date was not pushed back."We can foresee that we are heading towards a disastrous situation. So we have decided to write to the Centre again for reconsideration of the GST rollout date. GOOGLE TO HOLD WORKSHOPS FOR SMBS FOR DIGITAL PRESENCE

Targeting the small and medium business (SMB) enterprises, Google India Private Ltd will hold 5,000 offline workshops over the next three years, a company official said on Tuesday.Addressing the media here, Shalini Girish, Director-Marketing Solutions, said the company with its online, offline and mobile training programmes is trying to bridge the digital gap experienced by the SMBs.She said the offline training will be conducted jointly with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci). Over the next three years 5,000 workshops will be held across 50 Indian cities.According to a study done by Google India and KPMG, digitally engaged SMBs grow twice as fast compared with offline SMBs.

According to the 2016 national census released on Tuesday.The Australian population is aging, more ethnically diverse and less religious than in the pastAbout 95.1 per cent of the Australian population responded to the census, which is carried out every five years, Efe news quoted the Australian Bureau of Statistics census as saying.The 2016 census established the country's total population at 23,401,892.About 29.6 per cent of respondents said they had no religion, an increase from 22 per cent in 2011 and a large jump from one per cent in 1966.The census also showed a decline in the number of people declaring themselves Christian, from 88 per cent in 1966 to 52 per cent in 2016.In contrast, Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim devotees have increased by 533, 200 and 160 per cent respectively, in the last 25 years. Nearly half of the Australian population were born overseas or had at least one of their parents born overseas, with the UK and New Zealand being the top countries of birth.

HMD GLOBAL CONFIRMS NOKIA 6 COMING SOON IN US

HMD Global, the company has now confirmed that its flagship Android handset - Nokia 6 . the company currently owns the right to manufacture Nokia branded smart phones. TORNADO DAMAGES 10 US AIR FORCE PLANES

 India's higher education system is not responding well to society's changing needs, making it difficult for the industry to find new employees with the right skills, says a study conducted by the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV).Only 40 per cent of Indian executives surveyed in the study indicated new employees recruited in local labour markets possess the requisite job skills, IBM said in a statement on Thursday.Most of India's venture capitalists (70 per cent) indicated that start-ups cannot find employees with the right skills.The IBM study entitled "Upskilling India" is based on insights from a survey of academics, corporate-recruiters, and emerging education leaders in India. In addition, the study also analysed results of recent surveys of startup entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and corporate executives."Skill is emerging as the new currency across businesses globally and in India. Today's rapidly evolving economic environment makes up
