ACTRESS CHARMME KAUR APPEARS BEFORE SIT IN DRUG RACKET CASE

 Actress Charmme Kaur on Wednesday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Telangana's Excise Department probing the Hyderabad drug racket case.Accompanied by her lawyer and bouncers, Charmme reached Abkari Bhavan, the office of Prohibition and Excise Department, around 10 a.m. She went there from the sets of "Paisa Vasool" of Puri Jagannadh who was questioned in the case last week.A four member-team of women officers questioned the actress on her alleged links with Calvin Mascrenhas, the kingpin of the racket.On a petition by the actress, the Hyderabad High Court had directed that she should be questioned by women officers between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.The court also asked the SIT not to collect Charmme's blood, hair and nail samples without her consent. COURT ASKS SIT NOT TO COMPEL CHARMME TO GIVE SAMPLES The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed Telangana excise authorities probing the drug racket not to compel actress  Charmme Kaur  to give her blood, nail and hair samples for analysis. UBER LAUNCHES 'DRIVER PROFILE' TO GAIN RIDER'S TRUST

   In a bid to bridge the trust deficit berween a rider and driver, cab-hailing app Uber on Tuesday announced a new 'Driver Profile' feature to detail who the man behind the wheel is. "At Uber, we are introducing a way for riders to know their driver partners better. We believe it will have a positive impact on furthering trust between riders and driver partners," said Apurva Dalal, Head of Engineering, Uber India, in a statement. Meanwhile, driver partners can customise their profile by adding personal information like the languages they speak, hometown, city recommendation and even a fun fact about themselves.  Riders, on the other hand, can now learn more about the person behind the wheel by tapping on the p hoto. JAPANESE WOMAN DIES FROM TICK-BORNE DISEASE

A Japanese woman has died of a tick-borne disease caught from a cat, in what is thought to be the first such mammal to human transmission, the media reported on Tuesday.Japan's Health Ministry said the woman in her 50s had been helping a weakening stray cat when she was bitten, reports the BBC.Ten days later, she died of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS), which is carried by ticks.With no tick bite detected, doctors assume the illness must have been contracted via the infected cat.SFTS is a relatively new infectious disease emerging in China, Korea and Japan, the BBC reported.The virus is said to have fatality rates of up to 30 per cent and is especially severe in people over 50.According to local media reports, SFTS first occurred in the country in 2013.The ministry said the latest death was still a rare case but warned people to be careful when in contact with animals in poor physical condition.Globally, tick bites are widely associated with transmitting L

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Hyderabad drug racket has so far arrested 19 accused and not ruled out some more arrests.It so far questioned 27 people including five from Telugu film industry, officials said on Monday.They have not ruled out further arrests in the racket, which was busted early this month and caused a sensation following startling revelation that the accused were selling drugs to school and college students and even Tollywood celebrities.Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department's Director, Enforcement, Akun Sabharwal, who is heading the probe, told reporters that SIT had so far registered seven cases and arrested 19 people.Puttkar Ronson Joseph alias Johny Joseph, belonging to entertainment industry, was arrested on Monday and narcotic substances were recovered from his possession.Sabharwal said they were acting as per law and following all guidelines of the Supreme Court in questioning the people connected with the case.He denied t

 Ram Nath Kovind, who got elected recently and was a former BJP member and an RSS activist, was on Tuesday sworn in as the 14th President of India. Chief Justice J.S. Khehar administered the oath of office to Kovind in the presence of outgoing President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament's Central Hall. Immediately after the oath taking ceremony, Kovind, 71, exchanged the chair with Mukherjee to take over the top constitutional post of India - as the head of the state and supreme commander of the Indian Armed forces. The world football's governing body announced all doping tests collected at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, held in Russia this summer, resulted negative "FIFA today announced that the analyses of all doping tests conducted for the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 have yielded negative results," the statement from FIFA said. The 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, also known as the Tournament of Champions, was held between June 17 and July 2 in four cities across Russia, namely at Spartak Stadium in Moscow, St. Petersburg Stadium, Fisht Stadium in Sochi, and the Kazan Arena in Kazan, reports Tass news agency. KIDNAPPED BOY RESCUED, COUPLE ARRESTED

Five-year-old boy kidnapped from east Delhi has been rescued and a couple living in the neighbourhood arrested for the crime, police said on Sunday.Police said Asadul Islam and his wife Riksona kidnapped the boy on Friday from Seemapuri area and were demanding Rs 8 lakh from his mother to release him.They were arrested from Surya Nagar on Saturday evening when Islam was in contact with the boy's mother to tell her about the location where the ransom amount was to be delivered, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said.The woman had filed a police complaint on Friday evening about the kidnapping."Police investigation revealed that a ransom call was made by the kidnapper -- later identified as Islam -- to the woman about his demand for Rs 8 lakh to free the boy. An Indian-American doctor-cum-entrepreneur was sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison for defrauding his former company's shareholders of more than $49 million. Sreedhar Potarazu, 51, an ophthalmic surgeon licensed in Maryland and Virginia, founded VitalSpring Technologies Inc in 2000 and was its CEO and President and served on its Board of Directors, the US Department of Justice said on its website. Prosecutors said Potarazu provided materially false and misleading information to VitalSpring's shareholders to induce more than $49 million in capital investments in the company.  Potarazu was remanded in custody on Wednesday and will have to forfeit several homes, vehicles and bank accounts.   Nearly two months after reports surfaced saying Google tried to restrict media coverage of a gender discrimination case, the tech giant has emerged triumphant in its fight with the US Department of Labour over supplying pay gap data. Google is to commence the taking of photos for its Google Street View service in Austria from Thursday following a long break in the process.The US giant showed off one of its cars in Vienna on Wednesday, that will be taking photos for the online service, where users can access 360-degree panoramic views of streets, Xinhua reported.The company had initially begun the process in 2010, despite being hit by a temporary ban from the Data Protection Commission (DKS), when it was found the vehicles were allegedly recording potentially personal data from wireless computer networks as they drove by. The company argued this was unintentional.Though the ban was lifted the following year the company decided not to pursue the process any further. GST ROLLOUT NOT GLITCH-FREE: CBEC CHAIRPERSON SARNA

The rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has not been glitch-free and has thrown up issues on various fronts, including the entertainment tax, textile and MSME and other sectors, CBEC Chairperson Vanaja Sarna said on Wednesday.Sarna added that the issues will, however, get ironed out over time."The last 18 days of GST have thrown problems, it has not been glitch-free. In the proposed class-action complaint, Uber was accused of violating New York City Human Rights Law because 99.9 per cent of its more than 58,000 vehicles in the city are unusable by people in wheelchairs, Xinhua reported. "Uber purports to have some accessible vehicles in its fleet, but passengers attempting to use Uber's accessible service face extended wait times, or are still denied access to the service altogether," the complaint said. The 31-page lawsuit was filed in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan by Disability Rights Advocates, a national nonprofit legal center, on behalf of advocacy groups and individuals including the Brooklyn Center for Independence of the Disabled, Taxis for All Campaign, Disabled in Action of Metropolitan New York, Valerie Joseph, and Gabriela Amari. Authorities probing the drug racket in Hyderabad will begin interrogating some of the Tollywood personalities in connection with the case from Wednesday, officials said on Tuesday.The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Prohibition and Excise Department of Telangana will question the artists including some leading actors and actresses over the next 11 days.The SIT has summoned 12 Telugu film personalities for questioning. Officials have served them notices, asking them to appear in person between July 19 and July 30.Well known director Puri Jagannadh is scheduled to appear before the team on the first day. He, however, is likely to send his advocate as he is said to be busy with shooting.Actresses Charmee Kaur and Mumaith Khan are scheduled to be questioned on July 20 and July 21 respectively.
