AMARNATH YATRA : 500 PILGRIMS LEAVE JAMMU TO CONTINUE PILGRIMAGE





"A fresh batch of 3,500 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in an escorted convoy of 153 vehicles at 3.25 a.m.," officials said here.
The rush of devotees has continued unabated despite the terror attack on Monday in which seven pilgrims were killed and 19 others injured.
The Jammu-Srinagar highway, which the pilgrims use to reach the valley, was closed on Wednesday due to landslides triggered by heavy rains in the Panthal sector of Ramban district.
However, it was restored for traffic later in the evening.
All vehicles carrying pilgrims have to cross the Jawahar Tunnel, the entry point into the valley, before 3.30 p.m.

This precaution has been taken by the authorities to ensure that the pilgrims reach the base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal well before sunset.

Wednesday marked the 14th day of the yatra. So far this year, 1.68 lakh pilgrims pilgrims have reached the shrine located at 3,888 metres above sea-level.

The cave houses an ice stalagmite structure that waxes and wanes with the size of the moon.

Devotees believe the ice stalagmite structure symbolises mythical powers of Lord Shiva.

The 40-day long Yatra to the Himalayan cave shrine started on June 29 and will end on August 7 on Shravan Purnima coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival.

Google delays white Pixel 2 orders by a month

Google has delayed the delivery of some of its newly-launched white Pixel 2 devices by up to a month as it is having a hard time keeping the smartphone in stock."Some people who ordered a white Pixel 2 and received an estimated ship date of late October are receiving emails saying their order has been delayed by up to a month," a report in The Verge said late Monday.To make up for the delay, Google is now offering these customers a free Live Case, which normally sell for $40.Based on Reddit reports, the issue is limited to the 64GB model of the white Pixel 2 thatA -- along with nearly every other model -- remained out of stock or on a multi-week delay from Google's online store.In India, Pixel 2 is priced at Rs 61,000 for the 64GB variant.The pre-orders commence from October 26. INFOSYS NAMES TVS CAPITAL EXECUTIVE AS DIRECTOR

Infosys Ltd appointed TVS Capital Funds Ltd Vice-Chairman D. Sundaram as an independent director on its board, the software major announced on Saturday."Sundaram is appointed as independent director with effect from July 14 on the recommendation of the company's nomination and remuneration committee of the board," said the IT giant in a statement here after a regulatory filing on the BSE.
