Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 may not have the next generation Gigabit support and the company is committed to 4G LTE technology, the media reported. "Apple's decision to leave out the faster gigabit chip found in the competing Galaxy S8 from Samsung could be because of how it sources modems," tech website zdnet.com reported on Monday.

Gigabit connectivity offers fibre-like speeds via wireless and is supposed to be 50-100 times faster. Apple has partnered with Qualcomm and Intel for modems, of which only Qualcomm offers a modem which is capable of one gigabit download speeds. Apple is also reportedly developing a dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) chip, called the Apple Neural Engine, that would power AI-related tasks on mobile devices.

The chip is also said to improve battery life and the overall performance of Apple devices. With the new chip, Apple seeks to separate the computationally intensive tasks from the iPhone's processor and graphics chip. Apple will release iPhone 8 later this year.

Xiaomi launches Google Tez-powered payment service

Chinese handset maker Xiaomi on Wednesday introduced a new payment service, powered by Google Tez, on its e-commerce platform Mi.com and Mi Store app.Users can now make cashless transactions on both Mi.com and the Mi Store app as Google Tez payments service operates atop the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)."As a merchant partner for Tez for business programme, all Xiaomi customers can now seamlessly and securely pay with any bank account stored in their Tez account on their phone," Sujith Narayanan, Head of Partnerships and Business Development, Tez, said in a statement.Users can pay directly from their bank accounts online for any purchase that they make, further cementing Xiaomi's commitment to contribute to the "Digital India" initiative."Our vision is to bring innovation to everyone and our integration with Tez is another step forward in this direction.
